‘Burt’ is a Grey TB gelding, Off the Track for 6weeks, currently standing at 15.3hh. Easy to catch, shoe/trim, float (in both straight and angle load), worm etc. and has had his bridle-path and withers clipped. As a race horse there was no dirt, and he was a pleasure to work with, and retired completely sound. His shoes were taken off 2 weeks ago, and even on our hard rocky ground he has no troubles (is now barefoot).
He is also very friendly with other horses, and gets along very well with both our dominant TB and pushover Arabian.
There are video's available if you click on our website/Facebook link above which shows him having fun with his buddies, as they are being ridden around him, happy to trot blissfully along and also standing still as though he is taking notes from his older paddock mate.
He is not herd bound though, can be taken away to be worked both at home and away from home, but does enjoy the company of nice natured horses. he loves our old Arab gelding, who is spunky but also mellowed. Burt also shares the paddock with a more dominate gelding and Burt has learnt what it means to be part of the herd and be respectful of his paddock mates.
He is also paddocked next to neighbours mares and their foals, no problems. Burt loves to get along with everyone......
He is a lovely mover, with nice balanced paces. He would be suited to a kind but firm handler/rider in order for him to reach his full potential. Burt has come a long way since being off the track, and has come right out of his shell. He is a smooch and will stand for cuddles all day, without getting pushy.
At 1 week off the track, Burt was ridden for the first time, and was absolutely lovely! Goes and stops off of predominantly voice and seat, has a lovely natural head carriage, and could be ridden on a loose rein, but was happy to accept contact also. I took him for a walk, trot, canter and gallop and nothing ‘fizzed’ him up. Works in circles very nicely. He is a very sensible young boy, and with a little encouragement will walk up to or over anything, even if he isn’t too sure. Other than this initial ride, he has not been ridden, due to me wanting to focus on his ground work first. So will need an experienced rider to get him going under saddle On the ground, he has been led over a bridge, tyre and tarp with no worries (plus a few other trail obstacles).
He is quite a brave horse, especially when he trusts his handler. He is lunging nicely, responding to body language and voice. We have done some join up activities, and now he will face you whenever he is asked to, even out in the paddock. Burt is always respectful, both when being work, out in the paddock and at feed time. He has also been taught to ‘kiss’ and is learning to bow. Burt is a very smart boy, and will go very far in the right hands! Due to his age, I have not done much jumping with him, however he has been free-lunged over some small jumps, and seems to have a good form.
He would be suited to any discipline with the right training and will go very far with his good looks, and stunning personality. He will not be sold to just anyone, as he is very special to us. However he is ready for an experienced home to take him into the world of their desired discipline. Asking $2500 Negotiable to the right home where his full potential will be unlocked. Burt is a very sweet natured horse who is also very smart and willing to please, will make the right person very happy be it as a general riding and companion horse or as a competition horse
